So here's what's on tap for 2006, the way I see it now (last update 5/18/06):
Los Angeles Marathon, 3/19/06
Calistoga-Santa Cruz Relay, 4/8-4/9/06
City of Gold Triathlon, 5/13/06
Uvas South Bay Triathlon, 5/21/06
San Jose International Triathlon, 6/25/06
Pine Bush Triathlon, 7/16/2006
The Core Run-Swim-Run etc., early August?
Danskin Seattle,8/20/06
Big Kahuna Half Ironman, 9/10/06
Santa Cruz Sentinel Triathlon 9/24/06
Los Angeles Marathon, March 19, 2006, Los Angeles, California
The scariest thing I've ever signed up for in my life. Can a (currently) 250-pound, 42-year-old woman actually run a marathon? Could that woman be me? Actually, the training's going pretty well now, after my usual winter hiatus for bronchitis, and I'm feeling confident. And scared. Both at the same time. Funny how that can happen.

Calistoga-Santa Cruz Relay, April 8 and 9, 2006, 199 miles from Calistoga to Santa Cruz, California
A return to the crazy party on wheels, with three sessions of running and some sleep deprivation thrown in. I'll be running with the eccentric characters of Team "Just Watering Your Flowers, Ma'am" in this weekend fundraiser for organ donation, wine-tasting party, and serial workout. It's in April this year because there are two big running events in October in the Bay Area that make it hard for a lot of potential participants to fit the Relay into their schedules. Not a triathlon, but a multi-sport event, for sure. Running, wine-tasting, and making really, truly, execrably bad jokes are the sports that Team JWYFM specializes in, and not necessarily in that order.
Well, we did it again. 199 miles, and we managed to dodge between the rain showers the whole way. Read the race report here.
City of Gold Triathlon, May 13, 2006, Lake Oroville, California
I got talked into doing this race by a member of the Chico Women's Triathlon Group and the owner of Swim Bike Run...And Then Some in Oroville. I was put off by the hills, but it turned out to be an excellent little race with a great atmosphere.

Uvas South Bay Triathlon, May 21,2006, Morgan Hill, California
This is one of my favorite local races, produced by one of my favorite event companies, J & A Productions (www.japroductions.com). It's a very peaceful little race. This year I'll have about 2 months of swim and bike training under my (unfortunately still capacious) belt. We'll see how that works
My first triathlon in the rain - squishy but successful.Race report here!
San Jose International Triathlon, June 25, 2005, Lake Almaden, San Jose, California
Another great J & A Productions race. Mostly flat and fast, with one good hill on the bike to get the heart really pumping, then some nice rollers as you make your way back into town. Excellent post-race chow, as at all J & A races.
Race report finally posted! Delay caused by wrist tendinitis rather than congenital laziness.
Pine Bush Triathlon, July 16, 2005, Albany, NY
So I was thinking of doing the Musselman Half-Ironman with my friends from the Weight Watchers Tri-ers group, but I weenied out on doing a half-IM with so little preparation. But I had it up on this site, so then a group called the Breathless Mermaids asked if I'd come do a speaking gig in Albany, since it's so close to the Musselman. I said, well, you know, I'm not actually going to go to Musselman, so, sorry... but the Mermaids have me set up with such a sweet deal I couldn't say no. Now it's the Tri-ers I have to say sorry to!
The Core Run-Swim-Run and then some, early August ??, Santa Cruz, California
I hope they do this again this year because it really is a certifiable Nutty Event. Run down beach, jump in frigid ocean and swim like crazy, repeat three times. Or more. Fight the surf, swell, cold, fog, rising tide and annoying but not deadly jellyfish. What could be a better start to your Friday morning?
Danskin Seattle, August 20, 2006, Seattle, Washington
Another race I got talked into doing by a reader. I'm going to do some kind of speaking thing up there, too, but we haven't made the big connection with the Danskin people yet. Anybody know somebody I should talk to? let me know at jayne at slowfattriathlete dot com.
Big Kahuna Half Ironman, September 10, 2006, Santa Cruz, California
I love racing in Santa Cruz. I really, really do. Never too hot, sometimes nice and cold (my faorite way to race), water temperatures that take your breath away, views of cliffs, beaches, seals, surfers, and hippies drumming on the beach. I'm a little worried about this since I'm still rather fat, but we'll see how it goes.
Santa Cruz Sentinel Triathlon, September 24, 2006, Santa Cruz, California
Gorgeous race, beautiful course, great weather, usually, excellent race-shirts, even though last year they ran a good 2 sizes small, and I was bitter about it. Perhaps my favorite triathlon in California, if not the U.S.
