Welcome to the wonderful world of Jayne Williams, Slow Fat Triathlete.

Jayne is living proof that you don't have to be young, lean, super-fit or otherwise exceptionally talented to have fun in triathlon and other endurance sports. Her first book Slow Fat Triathlete: Pursue Your Athletic Dreams in the Body You Have Now was published by Marlowe & Company in April 2004. Go to your local bookseller for a copy and be prepared to laugh until coffee, or your beverage of choice, comes spurting out your nose.*

NEW! Slow Fat Triathlete Technical Apparel! The inaugural Team SFT running shirt is NOW available. Contact Jayne for more information, pricing, etc.

Book Update, September 3, 2007 Well, we've had a little hiccup on the schedule. My publisher was acquired by another publisher, and the new imprint, Da Capo Lifelong Books, only has two lists a year, spring and fall. So The Imperfect Athlete's Guide to Fitness missed the Fall 2007 list. And, since it is a "New Year, New You" kind of book, it needs to be a fall book and not a spring book. Which means that the book will be seeing the light of day in late 2008. Sorry. I'm using the extra time to ensure it'll be worth the wait.

NEW! Sound off on plus-sized tri wear - and the lack thereof! Have you been suffering from the lack of plus-sized triathlon and athletic wear? I know I have. But recently I was contacted by a marketing person for a very well-known technical fabric company (I was asked to keep the name of the company quiet for a while until they've finished their project). This person is doing research into the market for plus-sized women athletes and wanted me to tell her what I thought people's needs were. I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with this one gal and told her everything I'd ever thought or heard or read in my interactions with other Athenas and Clydesdales.

But I think that this company should hear from you directly. So send me your ideas, gripes, fondest dreams about athletic wear. Send me your stories about apparel that works/doesn't work, unrealistic sizing ("That's an XXL? I don't thinkso!"), feeling excluded at the sports store/race day t-shirt table, whatever. I will forward your emails to this marketing person so your voice can finally be heard.

(*Jayne's mom wishes to register her disapproval of the nasal coffee-spurting imagery above. She says it's crude and will put potential readers off. If you're one of those, please be aware that the book itself is hardly ever crude. But your coffee and nose may be at risk nonetheless.)
